O poem of my life, you who write me,
O poem of my life that you write me
Each day, a letter from the melody of your love.
Each day a letter from the melody of your love

Have mercy on me, O love, or else slay me;
Have mercy on me, O passion, or else slaughter me
Do not leave me suspended in your sky.
Do not leave me hanging in your sky

Whenever you take life from me, give me
Every time you took a life from me, give me
A moment of an hour within your sanctuary.
A moment from an hour inside your enclosure

I see life, while death is within me.
I see life and death is in me
Oh, the torment of one who wanted you but did not find you!
And the torments of those who wanted you but did not find you

I keep vigil through the night, and the moon of your phantom is in my eye.
I stay up all night and the moon of your ghost is in my eyes
And the morning light awakens in me hope for you.
And the morning rays wake me up with hope for you

If a camel-driver chants, my longing overtakes me;
If someone guides me, my yearning turns me
And if your phantom appears before my eye, it weeps for you.
And if your ghost appears before my eyes, I cry for you

ياO أرقgentlest of الناسpeople قوليsay وشwhat دهاكhas come over you
How can this come to me from my heart's love?
How is this from the love of my heart that comes to me
O gentlest of people, tell me what has come over you.
O most restless of people, tell me what is your concern

If I have gone too far in my reproach, forgive me;
If I persist in blaming you, forgive me
You have indeed gone too far in slaying me through your tyranny.
You have persisted in slaughtering me from your tyranny
