البدرthe full moon يكملreaches fullness كلevery شهرmonth مرةonce
البدر يكمل كل شهر مرة
وهلالand the crescent of وجهكyour face كلevery يومday كاملfull
وهلال وجهك كل يوم كامل
The full moon reaches fullness once each month,
The full moon completes its cycle once a month
Yet the crescent of your face is full every day.
While your crescent face is perfect every day
وحلولهand its dwelling فيin قلبthe heart of برجa zodiacal sign واحدone
وحلوله في قلب برج واحد
ولكand for you القلوبhearts جميعهنall of them منازلabodes
ولك القلوب جميعهن منازل
And its dwelling is in the heart of a single zodiacal sign,
Its dwelling in one star sign is sweet
While all hearts are abodes for you.
While for you all hearts are dwellings
قتلkilling النفوسlives محرّمforbidden لكنهyet it
قتل النفوس محرّم لكنه
حِلّlawful إذاif كانis الحبيبَthe beloved الفاعلُthe doer
حِلّ إذا كان الحبيبَ الفاعلُ
Taking lives is forbidden, yet it
Killing souls is forbidden, yet
is lawful if the doer is the beloved.
It is permitted if the lover is the killer
أرضىI am content فيغضبyet grows angry قاتليmy killer فتعجبواso marvel, all of you
أرضى فيغضب قاتلي فتعجبوا
يرضىfeels content القتيلthe slain وليسand does not يرضىfeel content القاتلthe killer
يرضى القتيل وليس يرضى القاتل
I am content, yet my killer grows angry—so marvel:
I am pleased with my killer, so they are surprised
The slain is content, but the killer is not.
The slain is satisfied, but not the slayer
