    Shall I conceal a love renewed by your coldness,

    and before the tale-bearers show composure where you are concerned?

    وهيهات لدي الواشين عنك تجلدا

    I stem the torrent of tears for fear of my reproachers;

    yet composure where you are concerned, before the tale-bearers, is beyond reach.

    O lady with the beauty spot dwelling on a cheek,

    with water and blazing embers surrounding it.

    And she said, as coquetry played upon her figure:

    “Do you seek union, when sickness and death bar the way?”
