Take heed! For your safety, restrain a fool among you

from the immoderate speech that comes from him.

Do you revile me because I was shedding tears

for a people whose affection reached me without deceit?

For I shall surely weep as long as I live, and remember

the noble deeds of a people whose glory is at al-Jabājib.

By my life, Murayd had indeed kept apart

from evil; then the foxes' leaders schemed.

So Murayd deserved to have their noses cut off

for their reviling of the two clans of Luʾayy ibn Ghālib.

I gave my share of Murayd to Jaʿdar,

out of loyalty—by God's House amid al-Akhāshib, the rugged mountains.
