وما تستطيعُ الكحلَ من ضيق عينها

وما تستطيعُ الكحلَ من ضيق عينها

وإن عالجته صارَ فوقَ المحاجرِ

وإن عالجته صارَ فوقَ المحاجرِ

And she cannot apply kohl, so narrow is her eye.

The kohl cannot widen her narrow eyes

And if she tries to apply it, it ends up above the eye sockets.

Though you may treat it, it remains above the eyelids

وفي حاجبيها جزَّةٌ لغرارَةٍ

وفي حاجبيها جزَّةٌ لغرارَةٍ

فإن حلقا كانا ثلاث غرائر

فإن حلقا كانا ثلاث غرائر

And in her two eyebrows is enough fleece to make a sack.

In her eyebrows are signs of coquetry

So if both were shaved, they would make three sacks.

If they're plucked, there remain three moons

وثديان أما واحدٌ فهو موزةٌ

وثديان أما واحدٌ فهو موزةٌ

وآخر فيه قربةٌ لمسافرِ

وآخر فيه قربةٌ لمسافرِ

And two breasts: as for one, it is a banana;

As for her breasts, one is like a banana

And the other holds a waterskin for a traveler.

The other holds a water skin for the wayfarer
