كإبرةlike a needle البحارthe sailor فيin عاصفةٍa storm تَذبْذبيwaver
O scabby one, try your hand, form a bloc, join a party.
O Jarba, whatever troubles you plot, you mobilize, you politicize,
Like a sailor’s compass needle in a storm, waver.
Like a needle in the storms of the seas, you waver,
وكالطُيورِand like birds فيin السماءِthe sky حُرَةًfree تَقَلَّبيflit about
أيO جَرَباscabby one ويحَكِwoe to you ماhow أصَلفَinsolent وجهَكِyour face الغبيfoolish
And like birds in the sky, flit about freely.
And like free birds in the sky, you flutter,
O scabby one, woe to you! How insolent your foolish face is!
O Jarba, woe to you, how twisted is your foolish face,
اكلَّis it every يومٍday تطلُعينyou appear للوَرىbefore humankind بكَوكبwith a star

Do you appear before humankind each day with a star,
Every day you rise before people like a comet,
tailed, from the surplus of the tail you were given—
With a tail made of an excess of sins,
فتارةًthen sometimes بمشِرقٍin the east وتارةًand sometimes بمغربin the west
أيْO جَرَباscabby one فيin كلِّevery يَومday حُلةًa robe تَجَلْببَيclothe yourself
now in the east, and now in the west?
Sometimes in the east and sometimes in the west,
O scabby one, clothe yourself in a robe each day.
O Jarba, each day you don a new fancy dress,
أيْO جرَباscabby one كمhow often تَدَّعينَyou claim عفةًchastity لمnot تُوهَبيyou were granted

O scabby one, how often you claim chastity never granted you,
O Jarba, how much chastity do you pretend to possess that you have not been granted,
while you ride the vilest mount for the wicked!
When you ride the worst of ships into the dawn,
أيْO جَرَباscabby one ياO " بَهْلوانَacrobat " الملعَبthe arena المجرَّبِtried-and-tested

O scabby one, O “acrobat” of the tried-and-tested arena!
O Jarba, you clown of the experienced playground,
O laughingstock that time generously bestowed upon a dejected man!
You are a laugh brought by fate upon the grieving,
ياO فرُجةًa spectacle لمُعدِمينfor the destitute : فرجةًa spectacle عنfrom كَثِبclose by

O spectacle for the destitute—a spectacle close at hand!
You are a relief for the destitute: acute relief,
O itch from scabies in an inflamed boil!
You are an itch from mange in an inflamed camel,
ياO ثمَرَfruit العارِshame وياand O جريمةَa crime التَسيُّبunrestrained license

O fruit of shame, and O crime of unbridled license!
You are the fruit of disgrace and the crime of vilification,
O “she-cat” wishing to imitate a fox’s cunning!
O Jarba, you are a "brindle" trying to mimic the cunning of a fox,
ياO أُمةًa nation مغلوبةًvanquished لأجذمٍby a leper مُغَلَّبgiven the upper hand

O nation vanquished by a leper given the upper hand!
O nation defeated by the defeated impotent,
O owl, afraid of a fearful watcher,
O owl, afraid of the apprehensive fearful one,
منof سارِقٍa thief متَّهمٍaccused وخائنٍand a traitor مرتكِبa perpetrator !
of an accused thief and a criminal traitor!
Of the accused thief and treasonous perpetrator!
