O lamps of eloquence, even if it proves difficult
The lamps of eloquence, though they rebel
For me to find scope for speech, or it refuses to yield,
Against my realm of words or disdain,
فقدthen perhaps يُلْفَbe found السكوتُsilence أعزَmost precious نُطقاutterance

Silence may then prove the most precious utterance
Silence may yet prove nobler speech
When the lover is enamored of the one he loves.
When a lover is charged with whom he loves.
لعلperhaps البعدَdistance يُطلقloosens منfrom لسانٍa tongue
أضيقI feel constrained بهby it إذاwhen ماemphasis ازدَدْتI grew قرباcloser
Perhaps distance will loosen a tongue
Perhaps distance releases a tongue
That constrains me whenever I grow closer.
Too narrow when nearness grows.

Indeed, by my love for you and dewy longing
As for your love and the cry of my longing,
That stays moist in separation's scorching heat,
It remains moist upon the cheek of absence.

And radiant virtues, in whose shade I was sheltered—
In the meadows of generosity, delights
The bliss of eternity fluttered and stretched aloft—
Of eternal bliss flutter and imbibe.

I swear: I have a soul that sings
Truly, I have a soul that sings
Of you in love, and captivates and is enthralled.
Of you with love, swoons and slakes its thirst.
سأحفظُI shall preserve عهدَكمyour pledge لأجدَّso I may renew عهداًa pledge

I shall preserve your pledge, to renew a pledge,
I will keep your pledge to find a pledge
And leave a heart in pledge with you, so I may return.
And pledge my heart with you, to return.

And I shall scatter the phantoms, hoping I may
I will scatter shades upon myself
Cut a path to the beloved's phantom.
To the shade of the beloved, blazing a path.
