سلمتِmay you be well أختيَmy sister إذsince لمdid not يُبقِleave ليfor me زمنيmy days
سلمتِ أختيَ إذ لم يُبقِ لي زمني
أخاًa brother سواهاother than her، ولاnor أختاًa sister تناغينيspeaks tenderly to me
أخاً سواها، ولا أختاً تناغيني
May you be well, my sister, for my days have left me
I surrendered to you, my sister, when no time remained for me
No brother but her, nor a sister to speak tenderly to me.
A brother other than you, nor a sister to console me
ولاnor تَغيَّبَvanish عنfrom عينيَّmy eyes منبلجٌa dawning radiance
ولا تَغيَّبَ عن عينيَّ منبلجٌ
منfrom حُسنِthe beauty of وجهكِyour face يعرونيcomes over me فيُصبينيand so enchants me
من حُسنِ وجهكِ يعروني فيُصبيني
Nor may the dawning radiance vanish from my eyes,
Your beautiful face's light never disappears from my eyes
Arising from your face's beauty, sweeping over me and enchanting me.
It awakens and delights me
ياO فرحةَjoy of العُمرlife ظَلّيremain بسمةًa smile عَمَرَتwas filled
يا فرحةَ العُمر ظَلّي بسمةً عَمَرَت
بالذكرياتwith memories، تواسينيcomforts me ، وتسلينيand cheers me
بالذكريات، تواسيني ، وتسليني
O joy of life, remain a smile filled
O joy of my life, your smile comforts
With memories, comforting me and cheering me.
Me with memories, consoling and cheering me
حَسبيenough for me وحَسبُكand enough for you عنfrom بُعدٍafar وعنand from كَثَبٍclose by
حَسبي وحَسبُك عن بُعدٍ وعن كَثَبٍ
أنيthat I أناجيكspeak intimately with you فيin هذيthese " الدواوينthe volumes of verse "
أني أناجيك في هذي " الدواوين "
Enough for me and you, from afar and close by,
It is enough, for both you and I, whether from afar or near
That I speak intimately with you in these volumes of verse.
That I confide in you in these "poems"
