All that is in the universe is love and beauty,
All that is in the universe is love and beauty
At your appearing, though you are hard to attain.
Through your manifestation, though the goal was difficult

The light has spread, so how many raging seas
Became calm, and how often sands surged!
Became calm, and how much sand waved

And gardens where flowers laugh in them
With your pure lips, and imagination whispered to them.
Your pure smile and the imagination whispers to it

And plains, whose uplands would almost be overtaken
And plains where its ridges almost bare
By passion's recklessness, were it not for majesty.
A patch from the splendor, if not for the majesty
ماwhat لمنfor one who يهوىloves جمالاa beauty زائلاfleeting

What ails one who loves a fleeting beauty,
What is for one who loves transient beauty
While the full moon bears a beauty never effaced?
While the moon has eternal beauty

جدَةfreshness فيهاin them وللدهرand for time اقتبالa new beginning
May we never lose you, meadows of love,
Do not blame us for being pastures of love
Freshness is in them, and time has a new beginning.
New in it, and for time marching on

Our life is fresh, and the field of youth
Our life is fresh, and the field of youth
Holds a course for youthful play, and space.
In it a course for competition and range

O my beloveds, how many a misstep
Oh loved ones, how many stumbles
Has gone before—why is this one not forgiven?
In the past, why are they not mentioned

ربماsometimes قدindeed عللsoothed الظمآنَthe thirsty one آلa mirage
Soothe us with promises from you;
You blamed us with promises from you
A mirage has sometimes soothed the thirsty.
Perhaps promises quenched the thirsty

And promise me something other than nearness, for
And you promised me other than nearness, so
Estrangement from you and union alike have wasted me.
Separation from you cured me, and the union

I do not tire of life; be whatever you wish.
I do not hope for life whatever you want, so be
It is sweet to tire of anything but loving you.
Only your love makes boredom beautiful

Is it just—when I have not passed beyond youth
Is it justice, and I was not treated right in youth
And its span—that my nape should grow familiar with gray hair?
And its extent accommodates ugly old age

They are souls that were not created in vain,
They are souls that were not created in vain
And tender hearts, not mountains.
And gentle hearts, not mountains

I complain of you, and complain to you;
I complain of you and complain to you
Indeed, my sickness in loving you is incurable.
Indeed my illness in loving you is complex

So be gentle; I have had enough in love
So gently spare me in love
Of what I endure; enough of this stalling from you.
What I face, and spare me, O determined one

مهجٌhearts كانتonce were لهاfor them فيكمin you ظِلالshade
Is it for a sin that longing's heat scorches
For a crime the intense love kindles
Hearts that once found shade in you?
A passion that had shadows in you

I hope for it—pure affection from you—even though
I hoped it was the elite of you, and they
They have claimed it is a wish that cannot be attained.
Claimed it was an unattainable desire

Nothing set my fate against you but
Indeed my time seduced me with you
Sweet blessings and long days.
Good days that were beautiful and long
لاnot أذُمI blame الدهرtime هذيthis سُنةa law
للهناfor joy حالa time وللأحزانand for sorrows حالa time
I do not blame time; this is the rule:
I do not blame time, this is the way
Joy has its time, and sorrows have theirs.
There are states for bliss, and states for sorrow

We spurred them on, mounts of yearning,
We spurred them on, the steeds of youth
For you; weariness was about to overtake them.
For you, worn out by exertion

And we returned from you empty-handed, even if
Lean hopes had eaten away at them.
Eaten hopes became emaciated

Do not say that forsaking us has a cause;
Do not say we abandoned for a reason
What is said may delight an envious person.
Perhaps a jealous one liked what was said

الحبِlove إذاwhen شِينتare sullied خِصـالtraits
I am the one you have tested, that pure one
I am the one whose pure nature you tried
In love, when character is sullied.
Love, if qualities were disgraced

Virtues have refined my nature in love,
It refined my nature in love
Just as polishing brightens the sword.
As polishing removes rust from a sword
أيهاO you الناعمُone luxuriating فيin لذاتهhis pleasures
لذةُpleasure النفسthe self علىupon الروحthe spirit وَبالa bane
O you who luxuriate in your pleasures,
Oh you tender in your pleasures
The self's pleasure is a bane to the spirit.
The soul's pleasure is a affliction on the spirit
شهوةa craving غرَّتكdeceived you فانقدْتَso you yielded لهاto it
ومُنىand aspirations المرءof a person شعورfeeling وكمالand perfection
A craving deceived you, so you yielded to it;
A desire that deceived you, so you strayed after it
And a person's aspirations are feeling and perfection.
And the fulfilment of a person is feeling and perfection
