لاdo not تغضبيbe angry ياO ثلجsnow مِنْat ضَرَميmy blaze
O my nation, O League of Nations,
O my nation, o confederation of nations
Do not be angry, O snow, at my blaze.
Do not be angry, o snow, from my fever
لاdo not تغضبيbe angry ويديand my hand معطَّلَةٌpowerless
أَنْthat أقذِفَI hurl اللعناتِcurses ملءَfilling فميmy mouth
Do not be angry, while my hand is powerless,
Do not be angry, and my hand is disabled
that I hurl curses by the mouthful.
That I hurl curses filling my mouth
وعلامَand why تُغضِبُangers حكمةٌwisdom تَعِساًa wretch
خَزيانَdisgraced محكوماًsubjugated منsince القِدَمِancient times ؟
And why should wisdom anger a wretch,
And why does wisdom anger misery
disgraced, subjugated since time immemorial?
A shameful decreed from ancient times?

بلbut ماwhat يثيرstirs الشحمُfat فيin الوَرَمِa swelling ؟
But what harm can disparagement do to a stone?
But how does criticism harm a rock?
But what can fat stir in a swelling?
But how does fat stir a wound?
ياO سوءill حظِّfortune دُميًpuppets مرقَّصةٍmade to dance

Oh, the ill fortune of puppets made to dance,
O misfortune of my bloodied fate
played with and trampled underfoot.
Played with and trampled underfoot
إنيindeed I لاسألُI surely ask " قادةًleaders " أُذُناًan ear

Indeed, I ask the "leaders" for an ear,
I do not ask leaders for an ear
who feign muteness on the pretext of deafness.
Who whisper under the pretext of deafness
فيمَfor what الحياةlife تُرىone wonders إذاif عَرِيَتْit is stripped
منof أخذexacting ثَأرِvengeance عنfor دمٍblood بِدَمِwith blood ؟
What is life for, one wonders, if it is stripped
What is life if it is stripped
of exacting vengeance for blood with blood?
Of taking revenge for blood with blood?
وإذاand if النفوسsouls هوتhave sunk إلىto الرممdecayed remains ؟

وإذاand if الأُنوفُnoses خَلَتْare devoid منof الشَممِpride
And if souls have sunk to decayed remains?
And when souls incline to cobbling?
And if noses are devoid of pride,
And when noses lack smelling?

why have men, when the womenfolk suffice
Why are men complacent while in sanctity
for the inviolable things made lawful to them?
When what is sacrosanct is violated?
ماhow أقبحugly الأصنامَthe idols ليسthere is not لهاfor them
دَعَةُrepose الرضىcontentment والصمتِand silence فيin الصَّنمِthe idol
How ugly are idols that lack
How ugly are idols with no
the repose of contentment and silence found in an idol.
Flexibility of consent and silence like an idol
يتفرَّجونthey look on علىat مقابحهمtheir ugly deeds !
إذwhile يدَّعونthey claim محاسنfine qualities الشِّيمِcharacter traits
They look on at their own ugly deeds!
They watch their disgraces!
While they claim fine qualities of character.
When they claim good morals

In Libya there is lava, while they have
In Libya there are zealots who have
whatever lava their lusts desire.
Whatever desires they want from zealotry

Is the suckling child, then, slaughtered there,
So a suckling child is slaughtered there
while they are like servants to those who slaughtered him?!
And they are like servants to his butcher!
اللَّهمَّO God عفوكَYour pardon إننيindeed I am بَرِمٌexasperated
ولقدand indeed يُدَسُّis concealed الظلمُinjustice فيin البَرَمِexasperation
O God, Your pardon: I am exasperated,
O Allah, your pardon, I am sick
and injustice may indeed be concealed in exasperation.
And oppression is often crammed into the sick
فلئِنfor if indeed تعابَثَتِhave toyed الجيوشُthe armies بهمwith them
فلديهمُthen they have جيشٌan army منof الكَلَمِwords
For if armies have toyed with them,
So if armies frolic with them
then they have an army of words.
They have an army of words
