The mighty one cut off the conceited one's nose.

And the tyrant burned in the defiant one's fires.

And history saw what it had never seen

Of the struggle of the patient one who seeks divine reward.

O pen of glory, this is a page:

Dictate whatever you wish upon it, and write.

    Tell the generations how proud

The field of death was of an old man and a boy,

And a girl who mocked death.

Yesterday she was a star on a playing field.

    A nation defending a creed,

And a land defending a doctrine.

    ظنَّها " باريسَ " بنْتَ الطرب

    A heedless one embraced dreadful death;

He thought her Paris, daughter of revelry.

    فأرتْه كيف طُهْرُ المُغضَب

    And he showed her how vile the aggressor was;

So she showed him how pure the outraged one was.

Then a toiling hand followed him,

Skilled in delivering a slap to the usurper.

O hope of the universe in its ordeal,

O ray of hope, so sweet,

O builders of truth and justice upon

    A tsarist's ruined playing field,

There the son of reason and poverty prostrated himself,

Compelled, before the son of depravity and gold.

O wellsprings of hope, made to gush forth

For the thirsty and the ravenously hungry,

O purity of thought in its essence,

Never adulterated by honorifics and ranks,

Power at its zenith will not countenance—

Nor will a god in heaven—your being defeated.
