إِنَّما جاري لَعَمري

إِنَّما جاري لَعَمري

فَاِعلَموا أَدنى عِيالي

فَاِعلَموا أَدنى عِيالي

My neighbor, by my life, is indeed—

My neighbor is truly

So know—the closest of my household.

Like my own family

وَأَرى لِلجارِ حَقّاً

وَأَرى لِلجارِ حَقّاً

كَيَميني مِن شِمالي

كَيَميني مِن شِمالي

And I recognize the neighbor's right,

I see my neighbor's rights

Like my right hand's claim upon my left.

As my right hand to my left

وَأَرى ناقَةَ جاري

وَأَرى ناقَةَ جاري

فَاِعلَموا مِثلَ جِمالي

فَاِعلَموا مِثلَ جِمالي

And I regard my neighbor's she-camel—

And I see my neighbor's camel

So know—as I do my own camels.

Like my own camel

إِنَّما ناقَةُ جاري

إِنَّما ناقَةُ جاري

في جِواري وَظِلالي

في جِواري وَظِلالي

Indeed, my neighbor's she-camel is

For my neighbor's camel

Under my protection and in my shade.

Is under my care and shade

إِنَّ لِلجارِ عَلَينا

إِنَّ لِلجارِ عَلَينا

دَفعَ ضَيمٍ بِالعَوالي

دَفعَ ضَيمٍ بِالعَوالي

Indeed, we owe the neighbor

We owe our neighbor

Defense against injustice with long spears.

Protection from harm

فَأَقِلّي اللَومَ مَهلاً

فَأَقِلّي اللَومَ مَهلاً

دونَ عِرضِ الجارِ مالي

دونَ عِرضِ الجارِ مالي

So lessen your reproach; be gentle.

So refrain from blaming

My wealth stands in defense of the neighbor's honor.

Don't dishonor my neighbor

سَأَودي حَقَّ جاري

سَأَودي حَقَّ جاري

وَيَدي رَهنُ فِعالي

وَيَدي رَهنُ فِعالي

I shall give my neighbor his due,

I will fulfill my neighbor's rights

And my hand is a pledge for my deeds.

My hand guarantees my actions

أَو أَرى الموتَ فَيَبقى

أَو أَرى الموتَ فَيَبقى

لُؤمُهُ عِندَ رِجالي

لُؤمُهُ عِندَ رِجالي

Or I shall face death, and there will remain

Or I face death, leaving

Its disgrace among my men.

Shame with my tribe
