لقدindeed كُنَّthey were وهمًاan illusion مسعدًاheartening متنكّباstraying from the path
And O Lord, my hopes in my people have dissipated.
O Lord, my hopes for my people have vanished
They were indeed a heartening but misguided illusion.
They were but a pleasant, averted illusion
وياand O ربِّmy Lord هذاthis الشعبthe people كنزٌa treasure مضيَّعٌsquandered
ذَرَتْهُscattered it، أكفّhands العابثينthe reckless لتنهباto plunder
And O Lord, this people is a squandered treasure.
O Lord, this nation is a lost treasure
The hands of the reckless scattered it, to plunder it.
Scattered by the hands of abusers to plunder
وياand O ربmy Lord، هذاthis الشعبthe people حِسٌّa sense معطَّلٌrendered inactive
حبيسٌheld captive عنaway from الغاياتthe goals، باتhas become مُغَيَّباkept out of sight
And O Lord, this people is a sense left idle.
O Lord, this nation's instincts are stalled
Held captive, barred from its goals, it has become obscured.
Imprisoned from purpose, lost and obscured
