A people sings on the festival day of its glory,

with the noblest melody that rang from its lyre.

A melody brimming with fervor, as though

flames were scattering from its strings.

The camel-driver sang it, and so it became his song,

and the musician sang it through his flute.

And today the country's hopes have gathered,

and united in Parliament and its halls.

They cried out, demanding withdrawal, and their resolve

surged like a torrent in its current,

to restore to the beloved homeland the dignity

trampled underfoot, and wipe from it the stain of its shame.

The first signs of deliverance appeared and shone,

radiant as dawn in its light.

And visions of the hoped-for tomorrow gladden a nation

that suffered under the occupier and his colonial rule.

So today every free person on earth rejoices,

despite differences and despite his homeland's remoteness.

It is our hoped-for festival, the festival of our struggle,

and the first of its hoped-for fruits.

It is our festival—indeed, the festival of every people is

freeing the shackled one from the bonds of his captivity.
