O Fatimah, distance indeed consoles those in love.

Distance indeed consoles those in love.

I deem the affection I have gained from anyone but you a sin,

And what I have gained of your affection an added blessing and right guidance.

And never do we meet after distance and separation

And far-off parting, without feeling the coolness she brings

Upon a liver where love had almost laid bare

Scars—yet some people think me steadfast.
