أَبِالبُخلِis it through stinginess تَطلُبُyou seek ماwhat قَدَّمَتoffered
أَبِالبُخلِ تَطلُبُ ما قَدَّمَت
عَرانينَeminent chiefs جادَتgave generously بِأَموالِهاwith their wealth
عَرانينَ جادَت بِأَموالِها
Is it through stinginess that you seek what was offered
By greed you seek what their hands have given;
by eminent chiefs who gave freely of their wealth?
Noble ladies lavished their riches.
فَهَيهاتَthen, far from it خالَفتَyou went against فِعلَthe conduct of الكِرامِthe noble
فَهَيهاتَ خالَفتَ فِعلَ الكِرامِ
خِلافَthe contrary course of الجِمالِthe camels بِأبوالِهاwith their urine
خِلافَ الجِمالِ بِأبوالِها
Far from it, then! You have gone against the conduct of the noble,
Far from it! You have opposed the deeds of the generous -
as camels send their urine backward.
Unlike beautiful ladies with their fathers.
