كَتَبتُI wrote إِلَيكَto you أَستَهديasking for a gift نَبيذاًnabidh (wine)
كَتَبتُ إِلَيكَ أَستَهدي نَبيذاً
وَأُدليand I invoke بالجِوارِneighborly ties وَبالحُقوقِand rights
وَأُدلي بالجِوارِ وَبالحُقوقِ
I wrote to you asking for a gift of wine,
I wrote to you seeking wine
And invoking neighborly ties and rights.
And appealed to you through our kinship and through rights
فَخَبَّرتَso you informed الأَميرَthe emir بذاكَof that غَدراًtreacherously
فَخَبَّرتَ الأَميرَ بذاكَ غَدراً
وَكُنتَand you were أَخاone given to مُفاضَحَةٍpublic shaming وَمُوقِand folly
وَكُنتَ أَخا مُفاضَحَةٍ وَمُوقِ
So you treacherously told the emir of that,
Yet you told the prince of this treacherously
And you were given to public shaming and folly.
You were a brother of betrayal and distrust
