وَصاحَتand cried out مَساميرُnails الرِحالِthe saddles وَكُلِّفَتand were compelled
وَصاحَت مَساميرُ الرِحالِ وَكُلِّفَت
عَلىdespite الجَهدِthe hardship بالموماةِacross the desert سَيراًa march مُطَحطَحاjolting
عَلى الجَهدِ بالموماةِ سَيراً مُطَحطَحا
And the saddle-nails shrieked, and the mounts were forced
The nails of the traveling sandals screeched and were commanded
despite their weariness, to make a jolting march across the desert,
With great toil by fate to crawl exhausted
كَماjust as صاحَcried out سِربٌa flock مِنof عَصافيرِsparrows صَيفَةٍsummer
كَما صاحَ سِربٌ مِن عَصافيرِ صَيفَةٍ
تَواعَدنَthey agreed to meet كَرماًa vineyard بالسَراةِin al-Sarāt مُمَزَّحاwith ripening grapes
تَواعَدنَ كَرماً بالسَراةِ مُمَزَّحا
as a flock of summer sparrows cried out,
As a flock of summer birds screamed
having agreed to meet at a vineyard in al-Sarāt, its grapes ripening.
That had promised a vineyard in the morning merrily
