أَشَمُّlofty and noble مِنfrom among الَّذينَthose who بِهِمthrough them قُرَيشٌQuraysh
أَشَمُّ مِن الَّذينَ بِهِم قُرَيشٌ
تُداويremedies بَينَهاin its midst غَبَنَinjustice القَبيلِthe tribe
تُداوي بَينَها غَبَنَ القَبيلِ
A lofty noble, one of those through whom Quraysh
I smell more pleasant than those with whom Quraysh
redresses in its midst the injustice suffered by the tribe.
Are healing the rancor between clans,
كَأَنَّas though تَلألؤَthe gleam المَعروفِbenevolence فيهِin him
كَأَنَّ تَلألؤَ المَعروفِ فيهِ
شُعاعُradiance الشَمسِthe sun فيon السَيفِthe sword الصَقيلِpolished
شُعاعُ الشَمسِ في السَيفِ الصَقيلِ
As though the gleam of benevolence in him
As if the glimmer of favors within it
were the sun’s radiance on a polished sword.
Were the rays of sunlight on a polished sword.
