Umm Bakr kept me awake, reproaching me,

after a spell of rest—and reproach can hurt me.

She warned me of time, then said:

"This age is not to be trusted."

I said, when she rose to warn me of time:

"Leave reproach aside, and spare me."

Indeed, Ibrahim, the man of generosity and noble deeds,

is concerned by everything that concerns me.

We have tested him in the past, and found

his promises as certain as seeing for oneself.

I said what I said for the truth,

plainly evident—not for what he gives me.

Your sky sprinkled our land after the

drought there, and after ill forebodings.

So we grazed on the traces of rain poured out

by the two hands of one firm in strength and blessed.
