دَعَونيleave me وَقَدand already شالَتhas risen لإبليسَfor Iblis رايَةٌa banner
وَأُوقِدَand was kindled لِلغاوينَfor those astray نارُthe fire of الحَباحِبِal-Habahib
Leave me be, now that a banner has risen for Iblis,
Leave me be, for Iblis has raised his banner,
and al-Habahib's fire has been kindled for those astray.
And for the foolish, the fire of passions is lit.
أَبِاللَّيثِabout the lion? تَغتَرُّونَyou are deluded يَحميhe guards عَرينَهُhis lair
وَتَلقَونَand you confront جَهلاًin ignorance أُسدَهُhis lions بِالثَعالِبِwith foxes
Are you deluded about the lion as he guards his lair,
Do you take the lion for a fool, defending his den,
and ignorantly confront his lions with foxes?
While you meet ignorance with foxes' tricks?
فَلاthen may … not نَفَعَتنيbenefited me السِنُّage إِنif لَمnot يَؤزُّكُمhe goads you
وَلاnor أَحكَمَتنيmade me wise صادِقاتِtrue التَجارِبِexperiences
Then may age have availed me nothing if he does not goad you,
My age has not helped me, if it has not made you wiser,
nor may true experiences have made me wise.
Nor have experiences schooled me, though their truths be manifest.
