لِيَسقُطَ عَنهُ وَهوَ بِالثَوبِ مُعصِمُ
And many a traveler seeking a dog's bark, whose garment the wind was stripping away
The wind tears off his garment
to make it fall from him, while he clung fast to the garment,
To let it fall while he's still wrapped in the robe
عَوىhe howled فيin سَوادِthe blackness of اللَيلِthe night بَعدَafter اِعتِسافِهِhis pathless wandering

لِيَنبحَ كَلبٌ أَو لِيَفزَعَ نُوَّمُ
howled in the blackness of night after wandering without a path,
He wandered in the black night after confessing
so that a dog might bark or sleepers might start awake.
So a dog may bark or a sleeper may awaken
فَجاوَبَهُthen he answered him مُستَسمِعُone listening intently for الصَوتِthe sound لِلقرىfor guest fare
فَجاوَبَهُ مُستَسمِعُ الصَوتِ لِلقرى
لَهُfor him مَعَwith إِتيانِthe arrival of المُهِبِّينَthose who rouse sleepers مَطعَمُa meal
لَهُ مَعَ إِتيانِ المُهِبِّينَ مَطعَمُ
Then one listening for voices in hope of guest fare answered him;
The one who listens for sounds to guide to the villages answered him
he has a meal when those who rouse the sleepers arrive.
Though the raiders' arrival gives him sustenance

When he sees the guest approaching, he almost
speaks to him out of love, though he cannot speak.
Speaks to him out of love though he is a foreigner
