تَلاfollowed جَريَthe running of عَبّاسٍAbbas يَزيدُYazid وَخالِدٌand Khalid
تَلا جَريَ عَبّاسٍ يَزيدُ وَخالِدٌ
وَإِنand even though كانَhad قَدalready أَودىdied يَزيدُYazid وَخالِدُand Khalid
وَإِن كانَ قَد أَودى يَزيدُ وَخالِدُ
Yazid and Khalid followed Abbas in the race,
The horses of Abbas and Yazid and Khalid raced,
Even though Yazid and Khalid have already died.
Though Yazid's and Khalid's horses were fleet,
جِيادfine horses جَرَتran فيin حَلبَةa racecourse فَتَفاضَلَتand so differed in excellence
جِياد جَرَت في حَلبَة فَتَفاضَلَت
عَلىaccording to قَدَرthe measure of الأَسنانِthe ages وَالعِرقُand the bloodline واحِدُone
عَلى قَدَر الأَسنانِ وَالعِرقُ واحِدُ
Fine horses ran on a racecourse and differed in excellence
They raced in an arena and vied,
According to their ages, though their bloodline is one.
According to the strength of their teeth, though the sweat was the same.
