أَقبَلنthey came forward يَكنُفنَthey flank مِثلone like الشَّمسِthe sun طالِعَةًrising
أَقبَلن يَكنُفنَ مِثل الشَّمسِ طالِعَةً
قَدindeed حَسَّنmade beautiful اللَّهُGod أُولاهاthe first of them وَأُخراهاand the last of them
قَد حَسَّن اللَّهُ أُولاها وَأُخراها
They came forward, flanking one like the rising sun.
They come like the rising sun
God has made the first and the last of them beautiful.
God has made their first and last beautiful
ماnot كنتِyou were فيهِنَّamong them إِلّاexcept كنتِyou were واسِطةa central jewel
ما كنتِ فيهِنَّ إِلّا كنتِ واسِطة
وَكنّand they were حَولَكِaround you يُمناهاits right side وَيُسراهاand its left side
وَكنّ حَولَكِ يُمناها وَيُسراها
Whenever you were among them, you were the central jewel,
You were nothing but their middle
And they were around you, to that jewel’s right and left.
While around you were their right and left
