إِنَّ الزَّمانَ وَما تَرى بِمفارقي

إِنَّ الزَّمانَ وَما تَرى بِمفارقي

صَرَفَ الغوايَة فانصرَفتُ كَريما

صَرَفَ الغوايَة فانصرَفتُ كَريما

Indeed, time and what you see in the partings of my hair

Indeed time and what you see with my departure

Have banished folly, and I turned away with dignity.

Has dispelled delusions so I withdrew with dignity

وَصَحوتُ إِلّا من لقاء محدِّث

وَصَحوتُ إِلّا من لقاء محدِّث

حَسَنِ الحَديث يزيدني تَفهيما

حَسَنِ الحَديث يزيدني تَفهيما

And I have sobered up, save when meeting a conversationalist

And I awoke except from meeting a good conversationalist

Whose conversation is fine and who deepens my understanding.

Whose excellent discourse increases my understanding
