إِذ رَأى مِثل جَفاكا
I think sleep has imitated you,
I think sleep has imitated you,
seeing coldness like your own.
since it saw the like of your coldness.

From me comes patience; from you comes—
Patience is mine, and from you comes
estrangement. Take me as far as you can.
estrangement—so go as far with me as you can.

Too lofty was the ambition of an eye
Far-reaching is the ambition of an eye
that dared to hope it might see you.
that hoped to see you.

And is it not good fortune for my eye
to see someone who has seen you?
to see someone who has seen you?

If only my share from you were that
that you knew the love of you within me.
you knew what I suffer from loving you.
