دَعَوتُ لإِحدى النائِباتِ مُحَمَّدا

دَعَوتُ لإِحدى النائِباتِ مُحَمَّدا

فَأَعرض عَنّي جانِباً وَتجَرّما

فَأَعرض عَنّي جانِباً وَتجَرّما

I called upon Muhammad for help in a calamity,

I called upon Muhammad for one of the ladies

but he turned aside from me and found fault with me.

But he turned away from me, blaming and offended

وَرُبّ اِمرئ نادَيتُ عِند مُلِمَّة

وَرُبّ اِمرئ نادَيتُ عِند مُلِمَّة

فَأَلفَيتُهُ مِنها أَجَلَّ وَأَعظَما

فَأَلفَيتُهُ مِنها أَجَلَّ وَأَعظَما

And many a man I called upon in a time of calamity,

And many a man I called upon in adversity

only to find him a graver, greater calamity than it.

Yet I found him, because of it, greater and nobler
