إِذاwhenever تَجَدّدarose anew حُزنa sorrow هَوّنَmade lighter الماضيthe past
How much rage and sorrow I have swallowed!
Whenever a new sorrow arose, it made the past seem lighter.
وَكَمand how often غَضِبتُI grew angry فَماyet not بِاليُتمyou (plural) heeded غَضَبيmy anger

And how often I grew angry, yet you paid no heed to my anger,
Until I returned with a heart resentful yet content.
