O dwelling-place that has fallen into ruin,
O dwelling place that has fallen into ruin,
Time has clothed it in the vicissitudes of fortune.
Time has clothed it in vicissitudes.
أَينَwhere منthose كُنتَyou were بِهِمwith them أنساat ease وَمنand those

Where are those with whom I was at ease—and those
Where are those with whom you were at ease, and those
after whom I became one who took heed?
after whose departure I have become an object lesson?

Time turned upon them with a single turn,
Time turned upon them with a single onslaught,
stripping away companionship and leaving only a trace.
stole away companionship, and left the traces.
وَقَضىand fulfilled مِنكfrom you زَمانTime وَطَراa desire
طالَlasted long ماthat قَضيتَyou fulfilled منهُfrom it وَطَراa desire
And Time has had its fill of you;
And Time has taken its pleasure from you;
long have you had your fill of it.
long had you taken your pleasure from it.
