وَما زِلتُ مُذ لَدُنُ اعطِيتُهُ

وَما زِلتُ مُذ لَدُنُ اعطِيتُهُ

أُدافِع عَنه حِمامَ الأَجَل

أُدافِع عَنه حِمامَ الأَجَل

Ever since he was given to me, I have not ceased

Since I was granted him as a gift

warding off from him death at its appointed hour.

I have defended him from the dove of fate

أُعَوّذه دائِماً بِالقُرآن

أُعَوّذه دائِماً بِالقُرآن

وَأَرمِي بِطرفي إِلى حَيثُ حَلّ

وَأَرمِي بِطرفي إِلى حَيثُ حَلّ

I always seek protection for him through the Qur’an,

I always protect him with the Quran

and cast my gaze toward where he settled.

And I cast my eyes wherever he settles

فَأَضحَت يَدي قَصدُها واحِد

فَأَضحَت يَدي قَصدُها واحِد

إِلى حَيثُ حلَّ فَلَم يَرتَحِل

إِلى حَيثُ حلَّ فَلَم يَرتَحِل

So my hand came to have one aim:

So my hand's purpose has become one

toward where he settled and did not depart.

Towards wherever he settled and did not move

بِنَفسي حَبيب ثَوى في الثَّرى

بِنَفسي حَبيب ثَوى في الثَّرى

وَشارِقُ حُسن بِهِ قَد أَفل

وَشارِقُ حُسن بِهِ قَد أَفل

My life for a beloved who lay in the earth,

With my soul a beloved who dwelled in the soil

and a rising sun of beauty has set with him.

And the rising sun of his beauty has set
