إِذاif طَمعٌhope يَوماone day غَزانيassails me مَنَحتُهI grant it
إِذا طَمعٌ يَوما غَزاني مَنَحتُه
كَتائِبَbattalions يَأسdespair كَرَّهاtheir charges وَطِرادَهاand their pursuit
كَتائِبَ يَأس كَرَّها وَطِرادَها
If ever hope assails me, I offer it
battalions of despair, their charges and pursuit—
سِوىexcept طمعa hope يُدنيbrings near إِلَيكto you فَإِنَّهfor it
سِوى طمع يُدني إِلَيك فَإِنَّه
يُبَلَّغis brought to أَسبابَmeans of attaining العُلىeminence منwhoever أَرادَهاdesires it
يُبَلَّغ أَسبابَ العُلى من أَرادَها
except the hope that draws me near to you, for through it
whoever desires eminence is brought to the means of attaining it.
