أراك إذا أيسرت خيّمتَ عندنا

مُقيما وإن أعسرتَ زُرتَ لِماما

I see you, when you prosper, pitching camp with us,

Staying on; but if you fall on hard times, you visit only rarely.

فما أنت إلّا البدرُ إن قلّ ضوؤه

فما أنت إلّا البدرُ إن قلّ ضوؤه

أغبّ وإن كان الضياءُ أقاما

أغبّ وإن كان الضياءُ أقاما

So you are nothing but the full moon: if its light wanes,

It visits at intervals; but if there is radiance, it stays.
