سلask اللَّيلthe night مَنwho يَجلوclears away الدُّجىthe darkness عَنfrom مُتونِهits expanses
بِنيرانِهwith his fires إِذwhen كُلّevery نارfire لهاfor it سِترa veil
Ask the night who clears the darkness from its back
With his fires, when every fire has a veil;
وَأَينَand where مراميdestinations اللَّيلthe night بابنwith the son of سَبيلهits path
وَأَينَand where اِنتِصابstanding upright القِدرthe cauldron إِذwhen يكفَأoverturns القَدرfate
And where the night casts its wayfarer,
And where the cauldron stands upright when fate turns things upside down.
