قالَتshe said بعدتyou went far away فَخُنتso you were unfaithful فيin الحُبّlove
قالَت بعدت فَخُنت في الحُبّ
وَهَرَبتand you fled منfrom قُربىmy nearness إِلىto قُربِnearness
وَهَرَبت من قُربى إِلى قُربِ
She said, “You went far away, so you were unfaithful in love,
She said you were distant and unfaithful in love
and fled from my nearness to another’s.”
And fled from me to another
لاdo not تَحفليheed قَولاًa statement أُتيتِyou were brought بِهِwith it
لا تَحفلي قَولاً أُتيتِ بِهِ
قَلبيmy heart رَقيبُكُمyour (plural) watchman عَلىover قَلبيmy heart
قَلبي رَقيبُكُم عَلى قَلبي
“Do not heed words brought to you;
Don't heed the words I have spoken
my heart is your watchman over my heart.”
My heart is your guardian over my heart
