سِcompletion of الخَميس ('the army') بَينَbetween المطلّal-Muṭill وَبَينand between العَروسِal-ʿArūs
And when Jaʿfar appeared amid the army,
When Ja'far appeared at the auspicious hour
between al-Muṭill and al-ʿArūs,
Between the bride and groom in the bridal bower
بَداappeared لابِساwearing بهماin them both حُلّةa robe
أُزيلَتwere dispelled بِهاby it طالِعاتrising stars النحوسِill omens
he appeared clothed in a robe of them both,
He seemed to wear a robe that fortune blessed
by which the rising stars of ill omen were dispelled.
Which banished every omen of distress

وُلاةِholders of العُهودthe succession pledges وَعزّand the pride of النفوسِsouls
And when he appeared among his loved ones,
When midst his friends, the lords of high degree
the heirs apparent and the pride of souls,
The flower of men, most gen'rous, brave and free

وَشَمساًand a sun مكلَّلَةcrowned بِالشموسِwith suns
he became a moon among his moons,
He shone a moon 'mid lesser moons around
and a sun crowned with suns,
A sun with gleaming rays of glory crowned
بِإيقادwith the kindling of نارa fire وَإِطفائِهاand its extinguishing
وَيَومٍand a day أَنيقsplendid وَيَومٍand a day عَبوسِfrowning
with the kindling of a fire and its quenching,
Now with joy's torch the wedding feast he graced
and a splendid day and a frowning day.
Now grieved when mirth gave place to sorrow's waste
