وَمُؤَمّلٍand one relied upon لِلنائِباتfor calamities إِذاwhen
وَمُؤَمّلٍ لِلنائِبات إِذا
هَبّrose الزَّمانُTime بِأزمَةwith a crisis هَبّاhe arose
هَبّ الزَّمانُ بِأزمَة هَبّا
And one relied upon in calamities, when
And hopeful for good things when
Time rose with a crisis, he too arose.
Time brings crisis in a swoop
لماwhen رَآنيhe saw me نَهبَprey to حادِثَةa calamity
لما رَآني نَهبَ حادِثَة
جَعلhe made الذَّخائِرَthe treasures دونهاas a barrier against it نَهباplunder
جَعل الذَّخائِرَ دونها نَهبا
When he saw me prey to a calamity,
When he saw me seized by misfortune
He made his treasures plunder to bar its way.
He deemed treasures trivial before it
أفضىhe came إِلَيّto me مورّعاwarding off harm لحمىmy flesh
أفضى إِلَيّ مورّعا لحمى
فَحَمىso he protected وَجاهَدَand fought دونِيَin my defense الخَطباthe calamity
فَحَمى وَجاهَدَ دونِيَ الخَطبا
He came to me, shielding my flesh,
He confided in me, concerned for my fever
And protected me and fought the calamity in my defense.
So he had fever and fought off troubles for me
ماnot كَفّhe ceased حَتّىuntil كَفّhe checked آخرَهthe last of it
ما كَفّ حَتّى كَفّ آخرَه
وَلَقَدand indeed يَكونhe is بِمِثلهاat handling its like طَبّاskilled
وَلَقَد يَكون بِمِثلها طَبّا
He did not cease until he checked the last of it.
He did not refrain until he healed me
And indeed, he is skilled at handling such afflictions.
And he may be healed by the like thereof
