دانى الزَّمانُ بِها يَدان

Against a calamity I see, I have no

strength to resist—Time has brought it near.

لمّا بَلَغت مَدايَ في

لمّا بَلَغت مَدايَ في

كَ بَلَغتَ فِيَّ مَدى الزَّمان

كَ بَلَغتَ فِيَّ مَدى الزَّمان

When I did my utmost for

you, you reached Time's utmost in dealing with me.

وَنَصبتَني غَرضاً تُبي

وَنَصبتَني غَرضاً تُبي

حُ دَمي وَتَحمي من رَماني

حُ دَمي وَتَحمي من رَماني

And you set me up as a target, making

my blood lawful to shed, and protecting whoever shot at me.

هذا جَزاءُ مُقَدّما

هذا جَزاءُ مُقَدّما

تي إِذ أَكون وَلَيسَ ثان

تي إِذ أَكون وَلَيسَ ثان

This is the reward for past services

of mine, when I stand alone, with no second.
