Abu Jaʿfar, fear a setback after an onslaught.
O Abu Ja'far, restrain your exuberant stride
And curb the reach of your excess a little.
And shorten somewhat your excess
فَإِنfor if يَكُis هذاthis اليَومَday يَوماًa day حَوَيتَهyou have won it
فَإِن يَكُ هذا اليَومَ يَوماً حَوَيتَه
فَإِنّthen indeed رَجائيmy hope فيfor غَدtomorrow كَرَجائِكاlike your hope
فَإِنّ رَجائي في غَد كَرَجائِكا
For if this day is a day you have won,
If today you gain sway
Then my hope for tomorrow is like yours.
Then my hope for tomorrow is like yours
