دُموعtears دَعاهنّsummoned them الهَوىlove فَأَجَبنهso they answered it
دُموع دَعاهنّ الهَوى فَأَجَبنه
تحدَّرنthey streamed down شَتّىseparately وَاِلتَقَينand they met عَلىupon الخَدِّthe cheek
تحدَّرن شَتّى وَاِلتَقَين عَلى الخَدِّ
Tears—love summoned them, and they answered it.
Tears love summoned, so they responded
They streamed down separately and met upon the cheek.
Flowing diversely, meeting on the cheek
تَكِلّgrow weary جُفونeyelids العَينof the eye عَنfrom حَملholding مائِهاits water (tears)
تَكِلّ جُفون العَين عَن حَمل مائِها
فَتُبديso they reveal الَّذيwhat أُخفيI conceal وَأَخفىand I conceal الَّذيwhat أَبدىI reveal
فَتُبدي الَّذي أُخفي وَأَخفى الَّذي أَبدى
The eye’s lids grow too weary to hold its tears,
The eyelids grew weary of carrying their water
So they reveal what I conceal, while I conceal what I reveal.
