سقياًmay they be watered وَرعياand may they be cared for لِأَيّامfor days مَضَتpassed سَلَفاin times past
سقياً وَرعيا لِأَيّام مَضَت سَلَفا
بَكيتُI wept مِنهاbecause of them فَصِرتand I came to اليَومtoday أَبكيهاI weep for them
بَكيتُ مِنها فَصِرت اليَوم أَبكيها
May days gone by be blessed with rain and care.
I cry for days gone by, passed into history
I wept because of them, and today I have come to weep for them.
I wept for them and now weep again for their memory
كَذاكَsuch are أَيامُناour days لاno شَكّdoubt نَندبُهاwe mourn them
كَذاكَ أَيامُنا لا شَكّ نَندبُها
إِذاwhen تَقَضّتthey have passed وَنَحنwhile we اليَومtoday نَشكوهاwe complain of them
إِذا تَقَضّت وَنَحن اليَوم نَشكوها
Such are our days: without doubt, we mourn them
Our days too, undoubtedly, we will lament
When they have passed, though today we complain of them.
When they are done, though now we complain of their torment
