1. مهلا فللدين أعوان وأنصار

    وان تمادى عتات الغي أو جاروا

    Hold, for religion has helpers and defenders,

    Even if the rebels of error persist or act unjustly.

  2. حمى الشرية محروس بنجدتهم

    والكل منهم بيوم الحرب كرار

    The sanctuary of sacred law is guarded by their aid,

    And each of them charges repeatedly on the day of battle.

  3. ما ضر هم شنئان المارقين وان

    طخى وجاهم فأهل الشرع أقمار

    The renegades' hatred has not harmed them, even if

    It darkens and comes upon them—for the people of sacred law are moons.

  4. ألم تر الناس قد خانت ضمائرهم

    أمر الاله وأهل الحق أحرار

    Have you not seen how people's consciences have betrayed

    God's command? Yet the people of truth are free.

  5. غاروا على الدين مذ غار الجهول به

    والله حقا لأهل الدين يغتار

    They guarded religion jealously when the ignorant man assailed it,

    And God is truly zealous for the people of religion.

  6. قد أيد الله أقواما بنصرتهم

    للشرع فالخير فيهم أينما ساروا

    God has indeed strengthened people through their support

    For sacred law; goodness is in them wherever they go.

  7. في مثلهم قال ذو صدق مقالته

    والحق والصدق للأقوال معيار

    Of their like spoke one whose words were true—

    And truth and sincerity are the measure of speech:

  8. تحيا بهم كل ارض ينزلون بها

    كأنم لبقاع الارض أمطار

    Every land where they settle comes to life through them,

    As though they were rains for the expanses of the earth.

  9. فمنهم المصطفى والمرتضى رتبا

    من الكمال بعيد الصيت طيار

    And among them are al-Mustafa and al-Murtada, in ranks

    Of perfection—far-famed, soaring aloft.

  10. والفاضل العالم الندب الذي شهدت

    بفضله الجم أنجاد وأغوار

    And the eminent, learned, gallant man, whose

    Abundant merit highlands and lowlands attest.

  11. ما سير الفكر في تحقيق مسألة

    إلا وقامت براهين وآثار

    Never did he set his mind to examining a question

    Without proofs and transmitted reports arising.

  12. أنعم به من رشيد قد تفرد في

    ارشاده فاضاءت منه أنوار

    How excellent a rightly guided man he is, unrivaled in

    His guidance; so lights shone forth from him—

  13. أمر المعاد واثبات النبوة مع

    لوم من الدين لم يرهقه انكار

    The matter of resurrection and proving prophethood, together with

    Reproof from religion, which denial has not overwhelmed.

  14. وقد أقام لنا هذا الهمام على

    نكيرهم حججا يقضي به الثار

    And this valiant man has established for us, against

    Their denial, arguments with which he exacts vengeance.

  15. وذاك شأن أمام في تمكنه

    طود وفي العلم والعرفان تيار

    And such is the stature of an imam: in steadfastness

    A mountain, and in knowledge and insight, a torrent.

  16. له حسام يقول الحق منصلت

    في زمرة الجهل فتاك وبتار

    He has a sword that speaks the truth, unsheathed,

    Amid the ranks of ignorance, deadly and keen-cutting.

  17. وسنة الله تجري في خلفته

    ولم يزل في الورى صفو واكدار

    And God's established way runs through His creation,

    And among humankind, the clear and the turbid have always remained.

  18. والناس منهم هداة يستضاء بهم

    وآخرون عمات في الردى حاروا

    And among people are guides from whom light is sought,

    And others, blind, have wandered bewildered in perdition.
