وَمُوسِّدينَ عَلى الأَكُفِّ خُدودَهم
قَد غالَهُم نَومُ الصَباحِ وَغالني
Leaning their cheeks upon their palms
Morning sleep had overcome them and overcome me
ما زِلتُ أَسقيهِم وَأَشرَبُ فَضلَهم
حَتّى سَكِرتُ وَنالَهُم ما نالَني
I kept giving them drink and serving their remains
Until I became drunk and the same fate befell them
وَالخَمرُ تَعلَمُ كَيفَ تَطلُبُ ثَأرَها
إِنّي أَمَلتُ إِناءَها فَأَمالَني
And wine knows how to take its revenge
I tilted its cup so it made me tilt
