بأبيwith my father as ransom الأسمرthe dark-skinned one الذيwho فزتُI won منهfrom him
بأبي الأسمر الذي فزتُ منه
بهلالٍwith a crescent moon يبينappears clearly للناظريناto those who gaze
بهلالٍ يبين للناظرينا
May my father be ransom for the dark-skinned one, from whom I won
By my dark-skinned beloved, from whom
A crescent moon, visible to those who gaze.
I gained a crescent moon that's clear to see
قدindeed سقاناhe gave us drink فماbut did not شفاناhe healed us مداماًwine
قد سقانا فما شفانا مداماً
وشربناand we drank منfrom ريقهhis saliva فرويناso our thirst was quenched
وشربنا من ريقه فروينا
He gave us wine to drink, yet did not heal us;
He gave us drink but didn't quench our thirst
And we drank of his saliva, and so our thirst was quenched.
We sipped his saliva, and were satisfied
