    O you, my master, I have a tale

    that loosened my tongue and steeled my gaze.

    Here is my story; if you feel inclined to hear it,

    then listen; otherwise, tear up the page.

    A friendly fellow visited me—and what a

    guest al-Babbagha was, with his lustful anus!

    He called on me early, hungry, and disgraced me,

    and sucked my blood from me, though he was no leech.

    And as luck would have it, he is a she-camel; whenever

    you serve a bull, he chokes on it, dung and all.

    أتى على اللحم واحتسى المرقه

    He left not a trace of life in my cooking-pot's soul;

    he finished off the meat and sipped the broth.

    He ravaged my spread like a lioness with cubs,

    famished, with those nimble fingers,

    tearing and gulping, without regard

    for God in my poverty, nor any compassion.

    Tell the chief whose fingers

    are spread wide in bounty, full of holes:

    فكيف تنبو نفسي عن الصدقه

    Carrion, once forbidden, has become lawful for me;

    how, then, could my soul recoil from alms?
