فقد لقيت الردى بجفوته

Beware of union with the one I am afflicted with;

Beware the one whose affection brought me distress

for I have met death through his estrangement.

For through his indifference I met ruin

دنوت منه كميا أقبله

دنوت منه كميا أقبله

فلم تدعني نيرانُ وجنته

فلم تدعني نيرانُ وجنته

I drew near him like a warrior, to kiss him,

I drew near to him though he turned from me

but the flames of his cheek would not let me.

Yet his fiery passion allowed me no rest
