وَمِخيَطٍand a needle حارَwas bewildered فيهِby it وَصفيmy description
وَمِخيَطٍ حارَ فيهِ وَصفي
وَضاقَand fell short عَنof شَرحِهِexplaining it بَيانيmy eloquence
وَضاقَ عَن شَرحِهِ بَياني
And a needle that baffled my powers of description,
With heated needles my description is sewn
and my eloquence fell short of explaining it.
My words too narrow to explain it fully
يَكمُنُhides فيin لِبدِهِits felt وَيَبدوand appears
يَكمُنُ في لِبدِهِ وَيَبدو
كَالعِرقِlike a vein فيon باطِنِthe underside of اللِّسانِthe tongue
كَالعِرقِ في باطِنِ اللِّسانِ
It hides in its felt and appears
It lies beneath the flesh yet still in view
like a vein on the underside of the tongue.
Like veins beneath the tongue’s hidden cavity
