يا مُظهرَ العَقل في وِلايته

يا مُظهرَ العَقل في وِلايته

كيف ما زِلتَ ظاهرَ النَزَقِ

كيف ما زِلتَ ظاهرَ النَزَقِ

O you who display reason in your governorship,

O manifestation of reason in its domain

How is it that you are still so plainly rash?

How have you not ceased being evidently distressed

لا تَستقرُّ الزمانَ أجمَعه

لا تَستقرُّ الزمانَ أجمَعه

مِن عُظم ما قد حَمَلت من قَلَق

مِن عُظم ما قد حَمَلت من قَلَق

You remain unsettled all the time,

All time does not settle down

From the great anxiety you have borne,

Due to the great anxiety you carry

مُقدِّماً من يرى تَأخُّره

مُقدِّماً من يرى تَأخُّره

مُؤَخِّراً مَن يَفوز بالسَبَق

مُؤَخِّراً مَن يَفوز بالسَبَق

Advancing one who is seen to lag behind,

Putting forward those you see lagging

Holding back one who succeeds in taking the lead.

And lagging those succeeding

وَوَضعُك الشَيءَ غيرَ مَوضعِه

وَوَضعُك الشَيءَ غيرَ مَوضعِه

يَشهد عند الأَنامِ بالحُمُق

يَشهد عند الأَنامِ بالحُمُق

And your placing a thing outside its proper place

And your misplacing of things

Testifies before humankind to your folly,

Witnesses among people your foolishness

مع الذي تَقتَضي الفِراسةُ مِن

مع الذي تَقتَضي الفِراسةُ مِن

تَصغير راسٍ والطول في العُنُق

تَصغير راسٍ والطول في العُنُق

Along with what physiognomy infers from

Along with what discernment requires

A small head and a long neck.

Belittling one head and elongating a neck
