Where can I find patience apart from your face—where?

Between my heart and forgetting you lies a gulf.

Weak in resolve whenever I call on it for help,

The languor of those two eyes has weakened it.

It has become one of your two eyes’ allies; likewise,

Every heart in love becomes an ally to an eye.

O sleeper, mine is a sleeplessness

That grieves the talebearer and makes the two reproachers weep.

I died of intoxication—was it from two cups of wine

That your saliva tasted sweet to me, or from two lips?

I cannot bear separation from one whose face

Is a smiling dawn amid two darknesses.

The sun rises for us from a twilight glow,

While he appears, rising from two twilight glows.

I said to the soothsayer, when his eye stole

My eye—and one doom brought another:

You warned of the moon in Scorpio—who, then,

Will save me from a moon amid two scorpions?
