مُظفَّرُvictorious العَزمِresolve مَمدودُoutspread الرّواقِthe canopy علىover
مُظفَّرُ العَزمِ مَمدودُ الرّواقِ على
مَعالِمِthe landmarks الدِّينِfaith يَرفيهاhe mends them وَيَبنيهاand he builds them
مَعالِمِ الدِّينِ يَرفيها وَيَبنيها
Victorious in resolve, with his canopy spread over
His determination is reinforced, extending its porticoes
the landmarks of faith, which he mends and builds.
Over the landmarks of religion, raising and founding them
رَدَّhe turned الكَنائِسَthe churches كُنْساًlairs لِلهُدَىfor guidance فَخَبَتso it died down
رَدَّ الكَنائِسَ كُنْساً لِلهُدَى فَخَبَت
نَارُthe fire الضَّلالِerror وَوارَتهاand buried it أَثافيهاits hearthstones
نَارُ الضَّلالِ وَوارَتها أَثافيها
He turned the churches into lairs for guidance; then died down
He returned churches into sanctuaries for guidance, so the
the fire of error, and its hearthstones buried it.
Fire of misguidance faded out, with its fuel buried underneath
وَأَورَدَand he led to water العِلمَlearning عَدّاًa perennial spring مِنfrom إِيالَتَهِhis rule
وَأَورَدَ العِلمَ عَدّاً مِن إِيالَتَهِ
فَاِستَنَّso it ran freely وَاِفتَنَّand ranged widely عبّاًdrinking deeply فيin صَوافيهاits clear waters
فَاِستَنَّ وَاِفتَنَّ عبّاً في صَوافيها
And he led learning to a perennial spring of his rule;
And he brought back knowledge, training experts from his state
so it ran freely and ranged widely, drinking deeply of its clear waters.
Who refined and sifted, bustling in its filter houses
وَبَثَّand he spread لِلشِركِfor polytheism أَشراكاًsnares فَماso never دَرَجَتstirred
وَبَثَّ لِلشِركِ أَشراكاً فَما دَرَجَت
طَريدَةa quarry مِنهُfrom it إِلّاexcept اِستَوهَقَتbecame ensnared فيهاin them
طَريدَة مِنهُ إِلّا اِستَوهَقَت فيها
And he laid snares for polytheism; never stirred
And he set traps for polytheism, so nothing avoided
a quarry from it without becoming ensnared in them.
Being caught in them, except what slipped away
ياO بَدْرُfull moon مُذْsince أَشرَقَتْshone فيin الدَّسْتِthe throne غُرَّتُهُhis radiant brow
يا بَدْرُ مُذْ أَشرَقَتْ في الدَّسْتِ غُرَّتُهُ
غِيثَwere given rain الرَّعِيَّةُthe subjects وَاِخْضَلَّتand grew lush مَراعيهاtheir pastures
غِيثَ الرَّعِيَّةُ وَاِخْضَلَّت مَراعيها
O full moon, since his radiant brow shone on the throne,
O full moon, ever since you rose in the assembly, felicitously,
the subjects were given rain, and their pastures grew lush.
The flock’s raincloud, greening its pastures
أَقامَraised أَحمَدُAhmad مِنfrom مَحمودِهاtheir Mahmud عَلَماًa beacon
أَقامَ أَحمَدُ مِن مَحمودِها عَلَماً
بِهِthrough him اِستَقامَkept straight عَلىon البَيضاءِthe white path ساريهاtheir night-traveler
بِهِ اِستَقامَ عَلى البَيضاءِ ساريها
Ahmad made of their Mahmud a beacon,
Ahmad set up the standard, with his praiseworthy qualities
through whom their night-traveler kept straight on the white path.
Through which, fluttering whitely, it kept upright
مُحيِيreviver شَريعَتِهِhis sacred law مِنfrom بَعدِماafter اِنهَدَمَتit had crumbled
مُحيِي شَريعَتِهِ مِن بَعدِما اِنهَدَمَت
وَاِستَعجَمَتand grew unintelligible بَعدَafter إِفصاحٍclear expression مَعانيهاits meanings
وَاِستَعجَمَت بَعدَ إِفصاحٍ مَعانيها
Reviver of his sacred law after it had crumbled,
Reviver of His law, after it crumbled down
and its meanings had grown unintelligible after speaking plainly.
And its meanings were garbled, after being so eloquent
شابَتmingled with مَواهِبَهَhis gifts فيهاwithin it مَهابِتُهُthe awe he inspired
شابَت مَواهِبَهَ فيها مَهابِتُهُ
حَتّىuntil اِستَقَرَّتstood firm علىupon سَمْتٍalignment سَواريهاits pillars
حَتّى اِستَقَرَّت على سَمْتٍ سَواريها
The awe he inspired mingled with his gifts within it,
His endowments flourished in it, and his reverence
until its pillars stood firm in alignment.
Until it settled into a balanced, regular pace
