May my father be ransom for a young gazelle; I secured myself with oaths

from him before my bonds were tightened.

So if he is not of Harb, then war

has taught him to betray the covenant.

    A band of Umayya—Islam fled

from their midst like a runaway slave.

They spent on hypocrisy what they had seized by force.

Thus hypocrisy stood firm through agreement.
